The Centre for Digital Technologies in Healthcare (CDiTH) was formally inaugurated at IIIT Hyderabad on 19 March, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Sri F. C. Kohli. The event was organised under the Kohli Centre on Intelligent Systems (KCIS) and marked an important milestone for the institute as well as for the newly established centre.
CDiTH has been set up to apply modern digital technologies to improve the efficacy, affordability and reach of healthcare delivery. The Centre aims to bridge academic research and clinical practice, with focus areas including AI-driven diagnostics, data-driven interventions, advanced imaging and analytics, and the development of novel sensor and computational technologies for healthcare.
As part of the inauguration, Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman & Chief of Gastroenterology at AIG Hospitals, delivered the keynote address. Dr. Reddy is a globally recognised gastroenterologist and the first Indian doctor to receive all three Padma Awards, including the Padma Vibhushan. His contributions to the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy—most notably the development of the NAGI Stent—have had significant clinical impact. In his address, he spoke about the role of technology, data, and interdisciplinary collaboration in shaping the future of medical care.
The inauguration of CDiTH marks the beginning of a focused effort at IIIT Hyderabad to advance research translation in digital health and to work closely with clinical partners to address India’s complex healthcare challenges. The Centre will support research-led system development, collaborative projects, and innovations aimed at improving health outcomes at scale.
